The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded states grants as part of the State Targeted Response to the opioid epidemic. One of the NYS initiatives as part of the grant focuses on addressing opioid overdose related fatalities in counties showing very high rates of overdose deaths and ER visits related to opioid abuse.
This initiative will involve the training of first responders and other likely witnesses of such events what to do in overdose situations.
Participants will increase their understanding and awareness, ability to identify risk factors, recognize signs of overdose, and learn proper protocols in administering Naloxone.
